Scripture Reading; John 21:15-25
The gospel of John ends with a passage about the greatness of Christ. Peter, who had been frightened to even say the name of Jesus, would one day give his life for the Master.
"Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go." (This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) (Jn 21:18).
Not only would Peter never deny Christ again, he would seal his witness to the glory of our Lord with his own life. Jesus is shown to be great when people willingly give up their life for His honor.
And John declares that, although his record contains wonders that are beyond all human comprehension, there were many other things that Jesus did in His short life. No doubt there were wonders upon wonders that John and the others saw which the gospel writers did not include in their accounts.
And Christ's call to His followers does not result in the same circumstances, from person to person. Peter was martyred … John died in old age, seemingly from natural causes. God's designs for His children are according to His wisdom, but they do not unfold in the same way.
